Congratulations to DTE Grounds Maintenance Software user, Sunderland City Council, who scooped this prestigious award for 2008 at a recent ceremony.
The competition is organised and run by Briggs & Stratton with judging for this year’s competition from Peter Seabrook MBE and Steve Bradley (gardening editors, The Sun), Matthew Appleby (news editor, Horticulture Week), Anisa Gress (The Garden), Jean Vernon (freelance gardening journalist) Martin Fish (garden writer and broadcaster), Ian Small (Briggs & Stratton UK Ltd).
Entries are judged on a number of factors including environment, design, usability, access, maintenance and community involvement.
Council parks development manager Ian Coburn said it was the horticultural displays that stood out for him. “The flowers are stunning, but you also have the community events and the Friends of the Park group events."
“We are all over the moon – it’s a great achievement. All the staff who work to maintain the park are thrilled because there’s a dedicated team of staff who are very proud of their work."
“I love to see it in the summer when you get business people having their lunch in there – it’s lovely to see people using the park.”
This means that the park now qualifies for a further competition against the finest European Parks and we wish them every success in this endeavor. |
